"Walking distance from the Algiers ferry and just a stone's throw from the Mississippi River levee, Beatrix Bell has created a picturesque outpost for handcrafted products including her own namesake jewelry line. The store's multiple windows offer views of the tops of ships skimming down the river. And, on most days, the shop door is open with music playing to welcome customers inside. 'This neighborhood is magical' said Bell, who lives above the store with her husband, Robert Pell, and their five-year-old son.
A Baton Rouge native, Bell and her husband moved to Algiers Point 10 years ago and always hoped to have a retail space as well as a studio for Bell to work on her jewelry. Pell, an architect, designed the building. Inside the shop, Bell's own pieces are displayed to vintage cases she found in Pontchatoula.
The boutique also carries work by other Algiers residents, such as bath products from Doux Point Spa, Flicker Nola candles, and products by female artists Bell has met while working trade shows and art markets, such as soaps from Sweet Olive Soapworks and art prints and greeting cards from Lafayette-based Mattea's Hand."
